A family timber business

Growing on a legacy

The Seele family has farmed in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands since the late 1800s. Today, Trewirgie Timber (Pty) Ltd brings together timber farms around Baynesfield, Richmond and Dargle under one well-run operation, led by fourth-generation farmer Ben Seele.

Our approach is simple: grow the right species on the right site for the right market, look after the soil and water, and invest in the people who do the work.

What we grow

Three species, many markets

Spreading our plantations across species and end-uses keeps the business resilient and lets us respond quickly when markets shift.

Pine

Grown mainly for sawtimber, and milled locally into structural and industrial timber.

Eucalyptus

E. grandis and clonal hybrids for poles and sawlogs; E. smithii for premium pulp and eucalyptus-oil leaf.

Wattle

Managed for pulpwood and for bark, which is stripped by hand and sold for tannin production.

I’m a fourth-generation farmer, simply improving on the legacy of those that went before me.

Farming responsibly

Timber that grows forever – if it’s managed well

Indigenous forest, grassland and riparian zones are protected and kept clear of invasive weeds. Around 70% of our compartments are never burnt, and harvesting is done by hand by our own teams to protect the soil on steep ground.
